EnBW ODR
Foundation for the Future: Uptility Structures ODR’s GIS Requirements
Context
The modernization of the GIS systems at EnBW ODR and Netze ODR—transitioning from the legacy UT/ArcGIS Desktop system to a modern ArcGIS Enterprise and Utility Network architecture—places high demands on transparency, structure, and coordination across many departments. Uptility GmbH supported ODR within the NXTLevelGIS project using a comprehensive and structured requirements engineering approach.
Project Focus
- Systematic interviews with all relevant specialist departments
- Capture and structuring of workarounds in the existing UT system
- Analysis of peripheral systems (SAP, Salesforce, Geoportal, FME processes, etc.)
- Standardized, IREB-compliant documentation in Markdown
- User stories with clear acceptance criteria
- MoSCoW prioritization for realistic implementation planning
- Versionable documents with full traceability to original sources
Advantages
- Over 300 detailed specified requirements
- Full transparency and traceability
- Reduced migration risk through clear prioritization
- Identification of important optimization potentials
- A stable, reusable documentation standard in Markdown
- A robust foundation for architecture and effort estimation
Result
Uptility’s requirements engineering brought measurable benefits to ODR: over 300 detailed requirements, full transparency, and a reduced migration risk through clear prioritization.
"Uptility managed to capture our diverse status quo requirements precisely and in a structured manner. The depth and quality of the documentation gave us a clear view of our entire GIS ecosystem for the first time—an enormous help for the system transition."
